Forklift - Operation and Safety v1.2.1H5 (SSSTFL)

Forklift - Operation & Safety is part of VISTA's growing family of Silver Series online training programs, 1-2 hours in length and delivered via the web. They are ideal for new operator training.

The forklift is one of the most common pieces of equipment in operation today, used in many types of material handling applications. As more efficient methods for storing products are implemented and environments become more challenging, there has been increasing need for more maneuverable forklift trucks that can reach greater heights. This brings new challenges to operating them safely. Often, powered industrial trucks are treated with less respect than they deserve, because the danger and complexity of their simple operation can be deceptive.

This program contains six lessons:
Lesson 1 – Introduction: This lesson introduces the trainee to the topics covered in the Forklift – Operation & Safety program. It also discusses operator responsibility and safety.
Lesson 2 - Major Components: This lesson explains safety features, major components, common characteristics, and configurations. Forklift hazards are also discussed.
Lesson 3 - Machine Stability: This lesson covers the relationship between the machine geometry and operational dynamics, a crucial foundation for maximizing machine stability. It also explains the center of gravity, the "stability triangle" and contributing factors that affect it, as well as how to improve stability when maneuvering, lifting, and transporting a load.
Lesson 4 - Data Plate: This lesson helps trainees to locate and identify the forklift data plate, describe what information it contains, explains why this information is important, and shows how to interpret and apply this information in making task and load decisions. Based upon that, it helps trainees better understand the limitations of the machine.
Lesson 5 - Operator and Workplace: This lesson explains the operator's responsibility to be adequately trained and qualified, and to be aware of the environment or workplace where the machine will be operated. This lesson helps trainees develop the skills needed to operate the forklift safely in common workplace scenarios. It covers how to perform a thorough pre-use inspection how to perform a range of tasks. Emphasis is placed on knowing risks, environmental factors, how to avoid a tip-over, what precautions to take if hazards are encountered. The proper procedure to safely refuel or recharge the machine is also covered.
Lesson 6 - Operation: This lesson covers some of the more common operating techniques used in day-to-day activities. It discusses how to assess and deal with problematic loads, plus handling, transporting, and placement of materials. Trainees will learn about working conditions and the limitations of the machine to which they must pay attention. It also summarizes best practices, including proper roading procedures, stopping, shutting down, and parking of a typical forklift.

Trainers: Before you begin classroom or field training, why not provide your trainees with a solid foundation of knowledge about the equipment and how to operate it safety? This web-based training course can be delivered any time, anywhere you have access to a high-speed internet connection.
